Lay It All Out On the Field

This past Sunday was my church’s 2nd Annual Women’s Field day and it was so much fun!  Even though two days later I feel like I’ve been caned,  the healthy competition, teamwork and workout made for a great time.

My team was called, “TuTu cute but, ready for war” or Tutu Cute for short.  We would gain points based on our uniforms so, we had to have something nice yet original.  Our colors were berry pink, black, with a hint of camoflauge.  We wore tutus that we made ourselves from tulle and ribbon, and had berry-colored t-shirts made with the team name on the front.

Events

There were team events and individual events which included:

  • An obstacle course
  • A relay race
  • A hula-hoop match (I surprised myself by hula-hooping for 2 minutes straight!)
  • Bean bag toss
  • Softball throw
  • 100 yard dash
  • Over, under

I competed in all except for the bean bag toss and softball throw.  I felt really good at the time but, every inch of my body is extremely sore even now!  I have a slight competitive edge so, I know I pushed myself to do more than I would normally.

It’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness month

Hey loves! September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and it is one of the cancers that can be the most deadly because of the vague symptoms and the fact that many women are diagnosed when they are already in the advanced stages.

This is not a “get-scared” post but, more about becoming educated and aware.  Simplistic Chic is all about learning and making changes instead of living in constant worry and fear.

Lower Your Risks

Too often we wait for something to be wrong with us, and then go scrambling to find a cure or solution when sometimes it is too late. There are a few things that every woman can do to to lower their risks for ovarian cancer

  1. Use non-conventional feminine hygiene products. Many of the products on the market are full of chemicals and toxins that can wreak havoc on your reproductive system.   Check out this previous post with some of my favorite feminine hygiene products right now.
  2.  Eat clean.  For me this means I do not eat a lot of meat (when I do I try to eat organic meats), I limit my dairy intake (no cow’s milk/very little cheese), and very little refined sugar (on most weeks!)
  3. Exercise.  Get up and get moving!  Get that blood pumping and sweat those toxins out.  Find what works for you.  Exercise should not feel like a chore all of the time.  Dance, run outside, take a pole class, or go for a bike ride.
  4.  De-stress.  Stress, worry, fear, anxiety, unforgiveness, and bitterness can all have a negative physical effect on your body.  For the love of your body and mind,  find a way to deal with these emotions and effectively manage them!  I recently learned just how important this was.  Like seriously.  Read more here.

Symptoms of ovarian cancer may include:

 • Bloating

• Pelvic or Abdominal pain

• Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly

• Urinary urgency or frequency

Other symptoms may include:

 • Nausea, indigestion, gas, constipation or diarrhea

• Extreme fatigue

• Shortness of breath

• Backaches

• Weight Gain

 Currently, pap tests do not detect ovarian cancer and there is no screening test of ovarian cancer at this time which is one of the reasons that this cancer is often discovered in later stages.

If you are having any of the above symptoms or you just “feel off”  for two weeks or more, please go see a doctor.
