Welcome to Simplistic Chic!
I’m Candice, a 30-something girly girl born and raised in NYC, now living in Atlanta, Ga. Simplistic Chic was born in 2009 as a place where I could share with other women my journey towards balancing my body, mind and spirit. I wanted to feel empowered and not defeated. This journey started after I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and what a journey it has been!
At that time, I was so confused and desperate for more answers that the doctors were not able to give me. I was given three prescription medications and told that when I wanted to start trying for a baby I would have to start taking fertility drugs. It was a lot to take in at the time and I was devastated to say the least. I was so worried that I wouldn’t be able to have my dream of becoming a mother to come true.
I felt isolated in my situation because I did not know of anyone who was experiencing infertility or dealing with PCOS. It seemed like friends and family were poppin’ out babies with ease. I wanted to feel happy for everyone but, it was so hard! I felt less than a woman and wondered why I was going through this. To be honest, I still have those days every now and then but, I have learned so many things that have helped me out of depression and into a healthier mindset and body.
Simplistic Chic became like a journal where I could talk about what I was feeling, what changes I saw in my body, and what new discoveries I made. I began to write freely about my small victories and even my disappointments.
I began to do my own research on how to manage my symptoms and one day be able to conceive healthy babies. Everything pointed to living a more natural lifestyle. I started to learn ways to change how I ate, how I worked out, and even how my thoughts could be affecting my body.
I really believe that we have been given all of the basics that we need to effectively feed our bodies and minds. The demands of the modern day life have slowly taken us away from the natural simplistic techniques, remedies and products that our bodies crave to help us function at our best. As women, we play many roles every day and often neglect our own needs. Join me as I dish about natural hair, natural health, fitness, and PCOS in my quest to live the simplistic, good life!
